This science term database is a computerized corpus of Korean science textbooks from elementary to high school level for last 20 years. It provides easy and accurate descriptions and examples for difficult science terminologies which students encounter in school. The material is the science textbook according to the 6th curriculum, 7th curriculum and 2009 revised curriculum in Korea and covers all science subjects from elementary science and middle school science to high school physics, life sciences, earth science and chemistry. The publisher, however, includes two publishing companies which have consistently published scientific textbooks for last 20 years. The data included morphological annotations and science term semantic annotations to enable accurate science term search. It contains all texts except the cover, the index, and the appendix of the science textbook and contains meta information such as year, grade, unit, page, etc. From them, it is possible to search exact location and frequency of certain science term. On the other hand, it is also possible to search the definition sentence by giving markings to the sentences which explain the definition of science terms. The classification of science terms in this DB was made by using terminology classified in the Standard Korean Dictionary and the academic term glossaries published by the physics, life science, earth science, and chemistry academic societies as the primary criteria. However, considering the current state of science terminology in Korea, there is a limit to classify science terms based on these glossaries only. Therefore, in this DB, 14 science teacher and science education specialists have reviewed the missing term in the glossaries, and deleted the words which are listed in the glossaries but are difficult to be regarded as science terms. In the process of annotating science terms, the most difficult problem is the processing of noun phrases, homonyms, polysemic words, and inconsistent notation words. In science terms, noun phrases composed of two or more words are the majority, and the accuracy of the automatic annotation results is lowered because the spacing is not consistently made in texts. In this DB, a large number of science education experts examine each sentence one by one to raise the accuracy of the searching of science terms. Until now, many problems arising from science terminology in the field of science education have been continued without being improved or solved. Through this DB, learners will receive practical help in science learning, and science teachers will be able to collect teaching materials and information that have been difficult to access. In addition, we hope that the establishment of this DB that can directly and quantitatively look into various aspects of science terminology used in science education field will open up the possibility of accelerating empirical studies related to science terms.

" Students who encounter these explanations face difficulties in understanding as they face other difficult science terms. The DB constructed through this study will provide students with a variety of examples and explanations ranging from elementary school to high school level, which will help students to lead self-directed learning. This will help students solve difficulties in learning science, improve science achievement, and increase the interest on science, then contribute to mitigate the phenomenon of avoiding science and engineering. On the other hand, it is expected that the problem of using science terms indiscriminately in science textbooks and science classes will be improved as well. In the science textbook, this DB is an important resource for improving the problem of high level science terms being used in lower grades, the problem of excessive use of science terms, problems that are used without explanation even though it appears at the very first. In addition, it will contribute to improving the quality of science education by improving various educational problems related to science terminology. In modern society, where science and technology are deeply embedded in life, the scientific literacy of the public is very important, and its importance in the future society is expected to become even greater. This DB will provide accurate and diverse descriptions and examples to students as well as the general public, thereby positively influencing their knowledge acquisition, sound judgement and decision-making on the pouring scientific information, It is expected that it will lead to improvement of scientific literacy and national development
