Expect Effect / Research Utilization

A. Expected Benefits A glossary of terminology, including the national intelligence system, the intelligence activity cases, and the national intelligence agencies, can be used not only as a basis for research in academia, but also for the government intelligence area practitioners. 1. Contributions to the development of national intelligence studies The study of Korea's national intelligence began in earnest in the 21st century. Therefore, its history is still poor, and it is still stuck in organizing knowledge at the level of general introduction. In other words, the study of national intelligence in Korea is still very limited and more research is necessary on intelligence activities, intelligence cases, intelligence organizations operated by countries around the world, and control mechanisms for intelligence activities. Given this situation in Korea, the Intelligence Glossary can expand the research horizon of the national intelligence studies in Korea and contribute to the deepening of national intelligence research. In other words, the Intelligence Glossary is expected to play an important role in establishing the basic foundation for the development of national intelligence studies. 2. Contributions to national intelligence practice development The Intelligence Glossary is expected to be widely used as a basic reference material for carrying out intelligence practice with a very intensive knowledge throughout the national intelligence field. National intelligence practices are widely practiced in various government agencies such as the National Intelligence Service, the Armed Forces Intelligence Command, the Defense Security Command, the Defense Intelligence Unit Headquarters, and other government agencies such as the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Unification, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Public Prosecutors' Office, the National Police Agency. In this regard, considering the fact that national intelligence is widely used on the intelligence practice level rather than academic level, it is considered to be a useful reference for many public officials who are in charge of information practice. 3. Contributions to the activities of professional organizations such as the media and research institutes Broadcasting companies, newspapers, and other media use a wide range of information related to national intelligence in news reports of various intelligence related events. In other words, information on national intelligence such as intelligence agencies, similar cases, historical cases, and jargon are being used as important reference materials for media coverage. National institutes such as the National Defense Research Institute, the Korea Institute for National Unification, the National Defense and Science Institute, and the Institute for Foreign Affairs and National Security as well as private research institutes also use intelligence resources for research. In the study of issues related to policy formulation, the Intelligence Glossary is useful as a reference. B. Application plan 1. Henceforth the result of the study is planned to be published as a glossary of national intelligence terminology and later to be distributed to related ministries. o In consultation with the Korean Academic Research Foundation, the research contents will be published and disseminated in a dictionary form so that it can be used by relevant departments such as the National Intelligence Service and the Ministry of National Defense. 2. Providing services for the practical use of the intelligence terminology via the Internet o The research contents will be made public on the homepage of the Contemporary Korea Studies Institute in Hanyang University, so that the general public can refer to the research contents. 3. Continuation and intensification of research on intelligence terminology o Based on the existing research data, the Seminar on the Intelligence Terminology will be regularly held under the supervision of the Contemporary Korean Studies Institute in Hanyang University in order to further discover and deepen the contents of related terminology and increase its quality and quantity.
