Introduction
From the colonization era to the present day, the usage and translation of German words have not been unified despite their significance within the social science field in Korea. In particular, different scholars have used and translated social science terms with German origin in different ways, adding to the conceptual confusion. The purpose of this research is to construct the German–Korean Social Science Terminology database as a result of a research aimed at the specialization and unification of German social science terminology, which will be publicly available for researchers who study German social science and the general public. Also, the accessibility, convenience, and cost issues with the previous nonelectronic version of the dictionary will be addressed with this database, while improving its usage. We looked for and gathered 24,989 terms through the construction of German–Korean Social Science Terminology Database for one year from 2005 to 2006. This research was funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea (formerly Academic Promotion Foundation). To ensure efficient archiving, maintenance, and utilization of the outcome of the previous research, the researchers constructed a database and a search system to search German social science terminology for six months from March 2012 to August 2012 with sponsorship from the National Research Foundation of Korea. The database and the search system employed intuitive navigation and Web search engine to provide information on numerous terms as fast as possible.
