Introduction
The Modern Sijo Collection (Magazine version, Lim Sun-mook, Hongsung Publishing Co, 1981) and the Modern Sijo Handbook (Newspaper version, Lim Sun-mook, GyeonginMunhwasa) that compiled the modern Sijo in the enlightenment period still exist. However, enormous amount of new data were added by the work of this research team, which makes it very necessary to provide the database that combined the new data to academic society. In addition, verifying the same pieces of Sijo as well as the derivation and the different types of it, among the data scattered in each media of newspaper and magazine, and systematically organizing them are the tasks we cannot delay any longer. This research task aims to process about 12,500 Sijos from 220 kinds of literature from the end of the 19th century to the first part of the 20th century to respond to such necessity.
Because there is some limit in publishing and utilizing such enormous amount of Sijo texts in paper books, a DB system, which can systematically organize and utilize the data and continuously add even the newly developed data, is required. This tasks will prepare the original information by applying DTD and XML markup method, which is suitable for verse text processing, to make the systematic utilization of the data possible beyond simple search. The critical method of proofreading the original text has already been conducted. However, this task will perform the indication of complex matters, such as the insertion, addition, correction, and remarks that occurred in the proofreading process and additional information about the artwork in electronic literature guideline. It will also make the electronic documentation of those data based on the standard code. The information on the pieces of music and their authors written in the related literature will also be included in this task. The cancellation of the media and literature related to Sijo will be also connected with DB.
In addition, dimensional DM form will be realized by producing the normalized text that pairs with the original text for easy search and application. When this task is completed, researches on more diverse Sijos will be made possible beyond the restrictions of existing paper data books. In addition, it is expected to greatly contribute to the researches of the Sijos in the early modern enlightenment period, which were relatively depressed compared with the old Sijos, as well as to their cultural and educational utilization.
Under the auspices of the National Research Foundation of Korea (formerly the Korea Research Foundation), the contents, with a total of 12,500 Sijos in the modern enlightenment period, were derived and stored from 220 kinds of literature from the end of the 19th century to the first part of the 20th century for three years from 2007 to 2010.
In order to efficiently store, maintain, and utilize these data, this study constructed a DB and retrieval system to search the Sijos in modern enlightenment period for six months from December 2011 to June 2012. Through the intuitive navigation and Web searching machine, the prompt provision of information on various terminologies was made possible.
