Introduction
Like the complications the modern history had experienced when Korea was incorporated into the Japanese colonial system in the midst of the plunder of worldwide imperialism, the history of our modern literature was also faced with the rapid changes that never happened before. In particular, Chinese, which never lost its position as the public communication language until the end of the Joseon Dynasty, started to be rapidly neglected after being separated in the perspective of modernity. Also, the direction of modern literature construction was placed in Europe or Japan not because the concept of modern literature was created with the regret in the history of our literature after the Chinese-based literature activity was rejected but because all traditional cultural heritage was completely negated after Koreans were stimulated by the literature patterns of Europe or Japan that preoccupied the modernity. The history of our modern literature experienced the colonial modernization process together with the modern history. Just like the overall areas that experienced the colonial modernization process, our literature history also had the mixture of tradition and modernity, which entangled both destruction and construction. At that period, the medieval literature style still existed, and it was still being circulated in conventional and fun way. In other words, the modern literature styles were created, circulated, and enjoyed in completely separate space, that is to say, modern media, such as magazine and newspaper. The fact that a lot of Chinese poems, the main literature style in medieval time, appeared in the modern media that advocated modernity makes us think about the degree of complexity in line with the mixture of tradition and modernity. In other words, the medieval and modern literature styles existed in the same age, and they were entangled lengthwise and breadthwise in the same space.
